Artist Statement

Interesting and diverse best describe my work. I combine my love of texture and design with symbolism and nature. I create art that is expressive through use of different 3D media. My knowledge of industrial materials is an asset in both my painting business, "The Artist Touch,” and my own work.

I enjoy collecting objects like metal and glass because they add a depth and tactile quality for the viewer and captures light.  The metal objects used were collected over the past 20 years on various excursions around the city of Boston. I find such beauty in them.  Metaphorically the metal objects were once new and now they are transformed like people do as life molds them. As I see it there is no separation between life and art. Art dictates life. These objects are now important because I found them and granted them importance.  I look at nature in the same way.  I like to take photos and mix the two worlds of realism and the abstract to create a new perspective. Working large helps me explore this better.

The viewer's experience is very important to me. I want to pull them in closer to look at the details. As I create I  take into consideration elements like shadow, metallic paint reflections and lighting.  An interactive experience. I want my work to have elements hanging off the edges as if the picture were bursting out to become a part of the wall and environment. I use subjects like butterflies and flowers because of their symbolism of transformation and being free, a human quality. Creating layers in my art, just like my life.
